Hi Australian climbers.
I've arrived here just three weeks ago from a small village in the Alps. I'm going to spend 8 months in Victoria as an Italian assistent teacher.
Unfortunately I'm not in Melbourne (where it could have probably been easier to meet most of you). Since I was offered a higher salary and two more holiday weeks free comparing with my colleagues who work in Melbourne, I decided to volunteer for a place in the country. So I'm actually spending my weeks in Wangaratta going to Melbourne every weekend. Please don't tell me that I made the wrong choice and that I'm in the middle of nowhere far from every climbing site (Mt. Buffalo shouldn't be so far...) I really hope I can find some climbing partners among you.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Youcan also text or call me at 0420825921
Thank you in advance guys!
Herbert

Welcome,
The Wang isn't so bad. Buffalo is very close, Beechworth has a reasonable amount of climbing and Bouldering. There is also bouldering at Felltimber plus climbing near Euroa at Tenneriffe. Getting across to Mt Arapiles and the Grampians is within reasonable easy reach by heading cross country.
Check out the guide section and the Eastern District area's I've listed.
There is a small but keen group of climbers in Albury Wadonga so should get some partners from there.
Ciao Martin

Thanks Martin.
What I forgot to say is that I don't have a car (which is a big issue here in the country) so I have to rely on scares public means of transport.
Is it difficult here in Wang (or some other place I can get by train) to come across someone who heads to a climbing site, so as to have a lift?
I hope not so. I have to file away some forced rest (because of an ankle sprain) but I hopeto meet soon many of you, have great fun together and make new climbing friends (as I did in other countries)
(I'll obviously pay back your hospitality to those who want to visit me in the wonderful Eastern Alps)

You might be able to beg for a lift from a Sydney/Canberra driver going through to Araps/Gramps (and return). Pretty good time of year to head down that way.

Victorian Climbing Club is planning a climbing trip 30 June-1 July, to Mt Pilot (& Stanly?) near Beechworth. ~> Should be people coming up the highway from Melbourne for it, so maybe you can link up with them for a weekend. Check the links portion of this site to access VCC.
...without your own transport climbing in Wang would be hard :(

You could always consider simply hiring a car on the weekend and just driving yourself to Araps. There are alwys people there that you can hook up there.
