when i teach someone how to lead outdoors i do the same thing.
letting you lead a climb while being top roped gives you security and starts to build your leading skills and clipping this in turn lets you make mistakes but fixes them without making you think that a grounder is looking mighty close. courses are great if you can do them because you have the money then do so. most lead climbers i know are happy to take newbies outdoors for their first time.
everyone will tell you a belay on a climb is better than none at all. |
