Hello,
Wondering if anyone in the Chockstone fraternity or anyone who knows anyone who will be heading from Christchurch airport (or Christchurch) to Mt Cook Village in the afternoon/ evening of the 24th of December (tomorrow)?
Just found out that rental cars are a bit sparse Christmas eve and am looking at alternative means of transport. If there's anyone heading in the same direction, I would be more than happy to share petrol and help with the drive.
It's a stab in the dark but thought I would try my luck. You know, Christmas miracles and all that...
Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
Thanks,
Ti

Alternatively there is a bus to Twizel and a second that you can take to Mt Cook. Its works pretty well but you'd best book as its a pretty popular route from memory.
Goodluck, wish I was there again this year!

There is also a bus straight to Mt Cook Village but it's more expensive - hitch-hiking can also work in NZ!
You can also try posting on New Zealand Alpine Club's FB page - I would say that would be your best bet instead of chockstone.
Take care on those hills Ti.

The cheapest option i have found was the Naked Bus from CHC to twizel. Get the driver to drop you off at the turn off to Mt Cook Village, hitch from there (super easy)

Thanks for the good suggestions and advice guys. I also looked into the bus idea, but alas, bus drivers have holidays on Christmas day too. But I didn't realise that the bus would need pre booking - thanks for the warning!
My solution was to move my flight to Boxing Day instead. Hopefully the stars align.
John, no hills in this trip, so my safety is assured. I'm not walking up anything above 5 degree incline and 45 degrees if it's down hill.
Have a wonderful holiday everyone!
