Sorry for causing misunderstandings!

We have harnesses, shoes and belaying devices. We also know fairly much about the areas, but I've noticed that it is still best to have "locals" to take you there. And yes, we do not own a rope but have been top-rope climbing and bouldering in Finland and Australia. We've joined the JCU & Townsville climbing club now that we're staying in Townsville and been up to Mount Stuart a few times and indoor climbing several times. We would be out on the mountains every weekend with the club if we wouldn't always be working at the time.

Why we don't have a rope or a crash pad? Two reasons: we already have tons of stuff to carry around Australia and as travellers we try to keep it to the minimum as everything is mostly carried in backpacks. Ropes and pads are a lot easier to share than harnesses, for example. The other reason is that we have very little experience in setting up the ropes and/but are interested in learning.

Yah, so the main thing would be to even get to try out some of the popular destinations and to find the climbable spots from vast mountain ranges. Arapiles, Bluies, Gramps and not to forget Tasmania (I've heard of the totem pole, is it doable?)

Meaning, we're not newbies without a clue, but we're not high-tech-pro-experts either. More like something in the middle.
