Make sure that whoever you go climbing with is actually an experienced and safe climber. I'm amazed at the number of people I have met over the years who are so called experienced climbers but don't have a clue. Someone who has sports climbed for 2 years at Hospital Rocks in Nowra (okay think crappiest most lamest crag in the World) is not the type of 'experience' you want and not someone who spends a day lugging 30 cams and 20 hexes up The Bard in the middle of Summer then goes and buys a case of beer from Horsham to celebrate their awesome epic day and they can't even pop the top cause their fingers are sore.

I'm sure there are plenty of very experienced climbers on chockstone that will show you the ropes and it is great to see people offering to take you out for a climb.

I can remember when I got the climbing bug. A whole new world opened up but I didn't quite no how to get into it. So I bought a heap of gear, found an even more bumbly friend and somehow managed not to kill ourselves. And then I met a real climber who had been interviewed in Rock climbing magazine and only then did I really learn how to climb.

So just when you think you are starting to get really good at this climbing game make sure you go and hook up with some old gnarly, sun stained trad climber who has done every route at every cliff in the world 10 times, does 20 routes a day without raising a sweat, does laps on a route 5 grades harder than the hardest thing you have ever topped roped and can slam down a six pack at the end of the day before you even get a chance to take your harness off.
