Hello All! Myself and my pal Jorge are making the trip from NZ to OZ for some climbing. We are arriving on March the 5th in Melbourne. We are trying to suss out a way to get to the Arapiles without renting or buying a car.. Our option at this point would be a Greyhound, but we figure there have to be loads of locals from Melbourne making the trip out! We would be keen to share petrol costs for a ride share to the rocks. Drop me a line if you would like to share a lift with two friendly climbers!

You just alienated every Mexican with internet access by calling it The Arapiles...

Yes, however you would have passed pm's 'filter test', if you had called it The AWESOME Arapiles!

To this day my friend still calls it Mt. Ara-Piles. It makes me laugh.

Damn! Maybe I should erase the post and correct it? Laugh all you want, but I would LOVE to hear you Aussies say El Potrero Chico - Hidalgo correctly!

This is your best place to ask, and it will probably happen eventually. But you will get chockstoned in the mean time. It's nothing personal, happens to everyone.

I'm having an identity crisis today. I'm a Chicano trapped in a dorky, muddle class white boy body.

You'll be right Alicia, no one's perfect.

5th March is a Saturday. Most people from Melbourne will be travelling from Melbourne on Friday for the weekend.
Were you planning on getting to Arapiles on the Saturday, Sunday or Monday? If your're lucky someone will be coming up on the Sunday with space.
V-Line train and bus to Horsham (30 km from Arapiles) operates daily - think it's about $25 per person one way. During the week there is a connecting bus from Horsham to Arapiles in early afternoon but on weekends you'll have to hitch (or take a taxi but that's an expensive option and sounds like not on your radar).

Ooh goody. Mr Eduardo has started a guessing game.
I guess better off on a Rhodesian Ridgeback, than scoring a ride to Arapiles on a Saturday from Melbourne.
Derek my M10 love guesses better off on a Rhodesian Ridgeback, than getting involved there with simey.

...... than a Greyhound (read his post). Greyhounds may be faster than the Rhodesian Ridgeback over 500m, but over a long haul with gear, they would taper off early.

Ok, I now guess, that the trend of starting up horses with electricity at the pommie races, will never catch on here, in the climber races from Melbs to Araps, as the society for cruelty prevention to doGs wouldn't be happy about it.
