Werribee gorge first timer

After living in Melton for the last 1.5 years I thought it about time I got out and explored Werribee Gorge.

It took me just under an hour to get from my place to the bottom of the crag where I found a crew, Dave, Scott and Claire, enjoying themselves climbing. They were a great group and very welcoming so we set up another TR. Feeling really adventurous Dave and I set up the rope (TR) on Redex and really enjoyed making it to the 3rd bolt before being unable to continue to climb. My max is about 18/19 so knew it was a long shot though I must say the face, moves and atmosphere of Redex is unreal.

We ended up playing around on a few other climbs and I cannot wait to get back with my rack and lead a few of the fun climbs that abound...

Nice one that would be great. I've got a bit over an hour from my place in Belgrave to Ben Cairn but that's nowhere near as fun as Werribee.

Hey,

Claire here :) Great to find you on the forum! We had an awesome day yesterday. Scott and I both had a go at Big Ears after you left. Scott got a few metres up then had some trouble and came back down. I jumped on and got to the same spot where Scott had struggled and was going to come down when Dave told me to stop being such a wuss, with a bit of swearing I pulled myself through and cruised to the top, it was a very enjoyable climb!

Contacted the guy on the forums about the helmet, so hopefully should be able to sort that if I am lucky, and have been trawling the internet all morning for more rope and trad gear.

So, we are also very keen to get out and have another go soon! I'm a bit nervous about learning to place cams, wires and the like, but if I ever want to have fun climbing in Victoria I have a feeling it has to be done!

Let us know when you are thinking of heading out again and we may just jump on vline and scab a lift :)

Just saw this post Claire. Stoked you're getting gear sorted and am more than happy to meet up with you guys and head off together. I love the Vline comfort wagon. Much better than Metro trains...

Weekends are looking the best for me at present and this Sat may be a goer... stay tuned.
