Camels hump newbie

Seeing as I live in Melton I thought it about time I explored the climbs in my area.... Today I headed
off with an intrepid friend and his son to Camels Hump. I cannot believe how much fun it is! The
access is easy, the rock is great and the climbs make me happy too! I tried to lead "Soft touch" but
was a tad too soft at the crux; I couldn't get good gear plugged in and the one piece I set popped out
as I stepped above it so I stepped across the gaping chasm onto the safety of the Greys arete ledge. I
feel saddened at my tiny cojones though I must say I'm pretty happy to have pushed through my
mental episode and found a safe way out.

There are so many fun climbs waiting for me I can't wait to get back up there. I also can't wait till I feel
comfortable leading trad routes.

Why must I work when there are so many worthy climbs waiting for my gentle touch?

There is a new route in the Blueys that sounds perfect for you... Rutger Hauer (23).

After seeing the pics of Rutger Hauer, my tiny ones became even smaller...

So Camels gets the thumbs up on access compared to your trip to Cathedrals and treking to Speigal's. I have to say, I'm pretty jealous now that I'm back in the office this week.

Let me know if you're ever in need of an extra climber, I've got those shiney new BD cams on my rack that have just had the one use.

I have recently moved to Woodend and have climbed at camels a few times now. It's a pretty good spot (except in winter) especially when you consider my "local" crag (choss heap) was Cape Woolamai with its many and varied ways of trying to kill you.( Rotten rock, exfoliating bolts and numerous Snakes). If you are looking for a climbing opartner let me know

Hi Cam & Mike,

I'm hoping to get out climbing next weekend, all going to plan, and will drop you a line. Feel free to
prompt me if I don't touch base. My wife is getting towards the pointy end of the pregnancy and I'm
experiencing brain fades on a daily basis! I only got to spend a few hours at the hump last time and really
want to get on a few more climbs.
I really wish Simey & Glen, who do the Araps guides, would take over the publication of all climbing
guides... I'd love all guide books, especially the western Victorian one, to be as user friendly...

Awesome I'm definitely up for heading out to check out Camels next weekend. Keep me posted.

P.S. Doesn't the pregnant one get the brain fades?

I think it's called a sympathetic pregnancy! I'm craving milo and ice cream and lovey dovey movies so
it's not all bad!
