Sigh.
Describing multipitch routes on granite is much harder than on sandstone / Arapiles etc,
particularly if they dont follow a line of bolts, and very particularly when they cross over each other, or start out of other routes.
North Buttress used to be accessible from left or right; after fires everyone comes in from Middle Rocks (right, facing rock).
Anyone staying on route should thank graphic skills of Paul Daniels and Anne Hastings.

There is a separate debate on how detailed a route description should be: there is a spectrum from chock by chock minutiae, with comments on hidden holds etc, all the way through to 1 line descriptions of 5 pitch routes. I can see attractions in both.

Anyone doing a new guide will have the advantage of computer graphics and maybe high resolution satellite imagery? I'll be interested to see if iPhone guides emerge (i.e. graphic per climb or similar). A new guide is about due, particularly after the 2003 fire changes.
