Drove out from Melbourne on Saturday.. Made it to Mt Rosea around 12 midday.. Started on Debutante..
Last time we made the mistake of going up Diane (as the D on Debutante is no longer visible).. so this time a little easier..
The second pitch is supposed to be the crux? I felt the forth pitch up through the crack system with the intimidating traverse out to a small belay legde ...(that is more like a hanging belay), was the crux? Anyways my seconder left a sling at the traverse nice orange and blue one at the traverse, we got to the top and the sunset.. Did fancy trying to find the giants staircase in the dark so to the long walkers track back to the carpark and did a runner up to the base of the cliff to retrieve trappings...
There was less loose rock than I thought..
Thanks to all previous climbers who had cairned (marked) the climbers track to the walkers track.
Perfect weather climbed in the shade for most of the day.. and no rain.. nice and warm.

thanks for the TR

but what is it about people always starting at Rosea at the crack of noon?

it also amazes me that people see a need / are grateful for the big cairns when all you have to do is walk about 100m south along the top to land on the superhighway tourist track. Given that the ridge top is never more than about 10-15m wide (deviate 5m left and you fall 100m, 5m right and you're clearly going down hill and thus clearly off the ridgetop), how can you get lost? knock 'em over I say

yes I knew I was in for a benighting.. to be honest I don't mind .. I flew in from Brisbane.. on the Friday night .. late.. and the girl won't get out of bed until 7.. but she is the one who seconded it.. so she can't complain..
on the cairns... hmm I understand the logic.. coming from tassie where whiteout conditions are a norm rather than an exception I like to see them .. but.. I would rather have them up .. no harm...
