Going to Mt.Feathertop was a challenge specially if you dont have a car but it can be done.I was planning to go alone for a solo climb when my young Russian friend whom i trained for Mountaineering had to learn also how to commute.
We left Melbourne 31 Aug. in the morning and arrived at Harrietville "Bitumen" information board. We the start the climb around 8:30 pm.,we meet two skier on the car park area going for a night trek too.Our night trek was excellent coz of the bright moon with a very cold wind chill on the trail,we arrived at the Fed. Hut 11:30 ish..and we cook our late dinner and had a rest.
2am i heard a noise and threre's another 3 guys arrived (skier), the next morning we head to our new campsite(best view campsite) at the junktion of razorback trail and the open area before the trail heading to the summit ridge.
We head up the summit after lunch and stayed up the summit ridge doing the steep climb,we also did a ice climb in the summit ridge "avalanche gully" east wall; i rig a top rope on different spot on the icy slope ridge. This time he enjoyed his time climbing up and down the steep slope as when our last trip to Mt. Buller was disapoiting for him coz there was no more icy slope to climb on.
As we head down at pass 4pm before the memorial cross area i saw i Hellicopter coming from the south ridge and i told my friend that if the helicopter makes a hover loop in one spot it will land and there's an emeregency goin on.The heli landed near the Fed.Hut area, and when we reached our campsite the two skier we meet on
our night trek and told us that one of the VCC club member was to be picked up.
On our campsite the four os us watched the hlicopter fly after they got the person and i took the photo of the heli as it goes off.
I hope that the guy is okay now..get well soon...

dont know what the details on that emergency for sure its vcc club, just heard from the two skier passing by our campsite....and saw the helicopter land and picked up someone then flew towrds the Mt.Hotham area.
yeah the weather was great for night trek as well as day,but at night its cold and windy so if your not using a proper tent dont camp on open space;but the best part of it is that you have the best view 360.
i found a snow peg on were we camp,it has a initial name Em's or Em'o...
so if you want it back just drop me a mail.
