Buffalo Aid Climbing Extravaganza!!!

4:00:40 PM
Thanks to neil for getting the news up before we even got home!

To give a little more detail: 'the strong team from canberra' was actually just a bunch of oddball aid climbers from canberra with flowers in their hair! (see photos for some daisy action!)
Chris Fitzgerald, Scott Young, Marcus Morley, Rohan kilham (sp???) and I left canberra on friday for a weekend of shenanigans!

On saturday: we rapped in, marcus and rohan going for the roof pitch of Haulden Caulfeild; chris and scott for copperhead road. Marcus lead the roof pitch on HC (A3+) with no troubles, and then he and rohan finished up the fang pitch on Ozy direct. Chris lead Copperhead Rd (A4+/A5?) I think in a little less than 7 hours more like 6 and a half? Anyway I rapped in a photographed this impressive lead, the third ascent of the route.

On sunday: scotto went straight to business on Clouded Queen, dispensing with all the rest and rapping in to the crux pitch. 20 bat hooks followed by a whole bunch of other craziness (pins/peckers/heads/cams...etc) and quite a fast time, im not sure how long though? rohan went in as photographer, some of the photos he took are up on the flickr site > they are pretty cool!

to top it all off HB was at buffalo so chris got to trade tales of the climb with the first ascentionist.

brilliant weekend at buffalo all around!

Well, I wasn't the one doing them, but it was amazing watching the other guys. The reason I said that is that I think neil's news item made us all look like super serious dudes, when the reality was we all had plastic flowers sticking out of our helmets (see photos) and spent a lot of the time on the wall playing 'guess the barnyard animal' and making animal calls.

Out of interest, neil, did you hear us doing that from defender??? Rohan does an incredible monkey impression!

I joined in with a few trill bird songs of my own! Your barnyard noises were certainly well audible in the

Hi Rod

had any mad north wall adventures lately? Copperhead road was wicked!! after the first crux (sketchy bathooks off three copperheads way above a bolt) the rest of the corner seam was fantastic. twenty heads in a row (about 8 fixed) interspersed with natural bat hooks finished off with a very slopey sketchy hook move to some decent pro. if you pop the last hook you would definatley hit the ozy original ledge about 50m below, lots of fun!!!

Cheers from Chris in Canberra

Awesome stuff butters.

As a side note it appears that many of the blank sections of the wall that I was eyeing off for new route potential have already been plundered by distinguished others (like Gren Hinton) quite a while ago. Thanks to the new guide we have a few more M9's to aim at ...

which routes are where you were looking for new routes?
