Break in the Weather.... 15-Sep-2003 At 11:30:56 AM GG

Werribee Gorge:

Jevon, James, Marie and I took a punt with the weather and drove to WG on Saturday. Whilst the weather looked OK, the walk in was a challenge with the high winds. Once at the rock face it was a case of stripping back to a singlet. No wind. Plenty of sun.

Jevon warmed up on Big Ears with James and Marie getting their first non top rope. Unfortunately there were no abandoned cams this time.

I threw a top rope over Conscientious Pontius (Grade 17) and we had a each had a run at it. Neither James or Marie had a problem - I really find it irritating when people with less than a years climbing experience make climbs like this look easy. I on the other hand seem to have an issue with cracks.

In a moment of madness, I decided to have a go at leading Tina the Ballerina From Passedina (Grade 22 Sport). I can't climb 22 in the Gym on TR, let alone lead. Well I did dog it a little ;-] , but I made it as far as the final bolt (after 2 falls). Jevon took a run at it and with two rests made it over the top. TTBFP has plenty of bolts that were well spaced. I'm sure I can Redpoint this sucker.

Unfotunately I got a bit ahead of myself and decided to have a go at Hannibal. I arrived at the bottom of the crack and had a bit of a panick attack. I don't like cracks(did I mention that?) I also have no experience placing gear in them. AND i only have 3 cams. AND I really tired myself out on TTBFP. I took the only option - Downclimb. It was at this point the clouds came rolling in. We packed the gear and made a run for the car. The wind was howling and the rain poured! Soaked through. Yuck!

Jevon and the gang are off to Gramps next weekend. Unfortunately, late breaking commitments mean I can't make it. Jealous, you bet.

Talk about loose rock - I notice a huge block has fallen and smashed the steps down to the lower section!
