The Mount Teneriffe Epistle 28-Nov-2004 At 6:29:51 PM rhinckle

The Mount Teneriffe epistle according to rhinckle.

"
And the 3rd Chockstone Gathering came upon the land.
There was much speaking therof, but the masses listened not.
And it came to pass that Rhinckle arrived around 10.30am with Popsn & Don.
He did drive 2.5ks down oak valley road as per instructions,
drived back, turned off at first right to house
where he did get directed to the sparrow slabs
He drived back
He drived past carpark without noticing it,
and did drive back again.
And he beheld not a multitude, however much he sought them.
And he waited for a while at start of oak valley Road
and was just leaving when A5 and wife did arrive.
They introduced ourselves,
and did drive again around to find "the others".
It came to pass that they occupied the carpark & talked of aid for a bit.
And then then went to play, leaving Mrs A5 to read in a hot car.

rhinckle lead a 19 climb the easy way to set up a toprope to practice aid hooking, and popping off.
This did take a longer time than he realized.
(A5iswhereitsat spake and sayeth "this is the accustomed pace, for the hours do disappear and we know not where they go")
Then, when setting the rope through an eyebolt to do the final belay for A5iswhereitsat and be able to retrieve the rope, rhinckle did drop that rope upon the ground.
Lo, would that have been half way up ye Ozymandias, it would verily have been not amusing.
He used cordalette and slings, and lowered himself to that place where A5iswhereitsat could throw up the rope of his humiliation to him.
And it came to pass that A5iswhereitsat got to toprope this 19.
While this was continuing, Richard & Pete arrived and did set off upon their own adventures.
Poopsn & Don did sleep and snap at flies.
At that hour Rod had to go and tidy his manger and tend to his household.

And on that same afternoon, Richard & Pete were next on the dance card of rhinckle.
Richard had lead a 17 and he & Pete were toproping the 20 which did lie to the right thereof.
Richard did kindly belay rhinckle as he ascended the 17, which 17 did lead to a move left to a bolted arete. At the start of this climb did he did have serious trouble and did lose his footing, but then he ascended with much grunting and gnashing of teeth. He did downclimb it, and did realize that this very arete could have been of greater facility in his progress.
(Upon what aspect do we gaze?)
Couple of grade 10 laybacks in a recess to the left hand side of whatever the 17 was.
And then a 17 & a19 both on a fairly pimply slab with a break at the top and two expansion bolts for belay (which bolts could accomodate not bolt plates but only wires )
rhinckle did lead the 17,
followed by Peter & Richard.
They did move further left (50 m or so)
to a two pitch 19 to the left of a two pitch 13.
Richard did lead the first pitch (25m)
and rhinckle did lead the 2nd pitch (45m) and behold he did find that 2nd pitch much easier.
Both Richard & rhinckle did slip off near 2nd bolt (as did Mike in his teneriffe epistle) while peter, the allegedly inexperienced one, did sail up it as a boat before the breeze.
Poopsn & Don did sleep and snap at flies.
In the fullness of time, were there beers and corn chips and dog soccer and then they did return to their housholds.
Thus endeth the 3rd, exclusive, elusive "chockstone gathering."
