The drive from Cairns to Mt Stuart is a ball buster. Looks like 4 hours, but on single lane highways with an impatient girlfriend it feels like an internity. Oh yeah, and don't camp at Mt Stuart. We did some sneaky camping on the defence land (hey, thought it would be ok), and the police thought that someone had got into a bother, so came to try and find us. They found our gear stashed, including my camera which had a whole bunch of climbing shots. They thought we'd gone over the edge, so called in the chopper to put the spotties on the base of the cliff! I got out of bed to see what all the rotared fuss was about, and saw the cops crawling around the edge with torches. Wondering what they were doing I went to say hello! They were actually just happy that we were alive, and told me they would have fined the hell out of us, but that it was a Tuesday night with not much happening, and the nudie shots of me and the girlfriend skinny dipping was the best entertainment they'd had all night...true story.
BTW - epic trip report from Bones and myself about recent Moonarie adventures to be forthcoming, with photos galore.
