Hi,
I've been to Kalymnos last Eastern. Is a wonderfull place, climbing is world class and even if you are climbing low difficulties you can try to push your level far, since all the routes are pretty well bolted , no run outs at all. Regarding accomodation you may rent an studio for two people with balcony for about 20 to 25 euros, try to avoid Sakis appartments it is really a dirty place.
I'm spanish so i did not realised any australian accent, however there 20000 thousand Kalymnias in the island and 20000 kalymnian living in Darwin XD
You will have to rent a scooter to go to some crags they cost about 10E per day, but if you take the pack studio+scooter you can pretty much reduce the price.
The food is good, however the spectrum is a bit limited en after a week you may become fed up..
