So, I'm sure many of you have heard about the good conditions in the southern alps at the moment.

I'm in the process of organising a trip over with a mate. We're looking at heading over mid January.

Just wondering what people might think the conditions would be like at that time of year, from experience? I was over there in Feb this year, in the upper tasman area, and by that stage so many of the routes were just out of the question, eg elie via the anna (i think?) glacier.

So now I'm trying to decide where to start the trip, and therefore where to fly to, and I'm interested to know what people might think conditions would be like by mid Jan. Eg - I'd be happy to go back to upper tasman (we're fairly well beginners) but would not bother if hochstetter and aylmer were the only options! Also considering westland NP (pioneer hut) or maybe even Aspiring.
