Ireneabyss to the highway was fine a couple of years ago. Plenty of leeches to play with in the button grass plains :-) The track was a bit overgrown from the river up to the ridge top, then fine. The track from ireneabyss to frenchmans is very good in comparison, because (I believe) many rafting groups walk up that way for a side trip).

Had a bit of a look at white needle and gendarme ridge, but didn't climb. If it's anything like the routes on nearby sharlands peak, then dirty and vegetated fun scramble is the order of the day!

hope that helps, the country south of there is awesome, and there's a lovely island in a lake that would make a great holiday home.
