A certain type of hardness can be found during winter on Scottish mixed routes for sure, where death defying routes make the runouts on some of Buffalo's more crazy routes seem perfectly sane, however IMO the mark of true hardness is open bivvying in the Scottish highlands during summer (e.g. below the Black Cuillins) where you must be either insane or the most stubborn person alive!
