Brian Mattick has just completed an updated guide to climbing in Kosciuszko National Park. It covers both summer and winter climbing. A lot of love went into this one. It is a fantastic place to climb.

The guide was funded and is being distributed by the Canberra Climbers Association (CCA). Recommended retail price (RRP) is $33. The guides are (or should soon) be available in local outdoor stores. Alternatively they can be purchased from the CCA. Feel free to contact me if you want a copy in a hurry (0434252616).

Cheers
Steve

Climbing Anchors should have them in stock next week.

The SRC will have them to sell to members from next week.

I suspect it will take a few weeks for them to make it onto the shelves in Mountain Equipment, Pallins and MDs etc

I'm happy to do a private sale and mail it to Adelaide. PM me.

Given a recent thread that i can't (be bothered) find(ing) about the sydney climbing guide, you may want to ask for payment up front from these guys before handing over the guides (or even going to the effort of printing them ;-))

For what it is worth all the retailers I have contacted including ME are being very supportive of the Blue Lake Guide.

Just make sure they pay their bills. From experience with CRUX some retailers aren't exactly forthcoming with paying invoices.

I don't see how a summer trip as a recce will set you up for winter.
Travelling on ice and snow in a whiteout, though very exciting if equipped, cannot be compared to parking at Charlottes Pass and ambling up the yellow brick road in boardshorts. The latter conditions can happen any month, as your guidebook probably states.

There appears placements for large cams and hexes for summer climbing at Blue Lake, yet in winter I am yet to place any cam above size 2, and don't see much potential for any hex. Wires of all sizes went well, and of course, ice screws - probably warthogs as well...
I have not see the guidebook, but did photocopy the old (orange?) ANU guide before it was stolen from Springwood library.

Take a look at these great pics by Damo666; http://www.chockstone.org/Forum/Forum.asp?action=DisplayTopic&ForumID=2&MessageID=8521&Replies=3#NewPost

A slightly older story on back country camping in Kosciuszko by other South Australians. (You are not supposed to stay at Seamans Hut).

And go now.

Thanks for the advice re gear differences that's good to know. I meant more to get the lay of the place to find my way around a bit easier, but I take your point. Yeah Damo's pics fuelled the fire I must say. Cheers

Sorry Batey, I haven't got my act together to get them into the Sydney stores.

I'll have another crack next week.

If you want one in the short term then Paddy's at Jindi has them, as does MONT in Canberra, Climbing Anchors, K7 Adventures and the SRC.
