Neil, We loved Lao Liang, after the crowds at Tonsai in Feb this year it was an amazing relief.
Protection was fine. Rock not polished, but agree with wendy - some quality was a bit not great.

The cover of the latest Rock Climbing in Thailand is a route called The Golden Triangle (6c) and it was by far and away the best climb we did in Thailand - rock was beautiful and the tatty ladder start made it a bit more adventurous. This guide has a section on Lao Liang with about 60 odd routes listed. Some multipitch.

All food and accom included in the island package, so it is very relaxing as well - not salubrious, but milo sachets on tap - can you complain really? Good snorkelling as well off the side of the island - not as good as places like Koh Lipe, but kickass compared to Tonsai/Railay because there are still actually fish.
