We were day-tripping from CP on Sunday. Northern slopes below about 1800m were pretty patchy on Sunday. N, NW, and W facing slopes up high on the Main Range (i.e. Little Austria) were still bulletproof at noon. E facing slopes were corning up nicely (i.e. Northcotes).

One of the guiding companies has just finished their winter courses, day-tripping into Blue Lake every day last week, and reported variable ice conditions with poor top-outs.

Also, a reminder to not camp in the lake catchments, there's plenty of indications of people camping right at Blue Lake (including probably, those 2 climbers mentioned by Damian - as we saw 2 people with camping gear leaving Blue Lake cirque at 9am on Sunday).
