Off-topic, but has anyone tried Haystack Madness at Bardens? I've never been out there in the rain, do the steeper parts of the crag stay dry?
martym - The Spartan is great fun. Not really pumpy, but airy and a bit thought provoking. Forget the bunched up traverse, the crux is trying to get up into that weird slot at the end of the traverse. There's also nothing like walking a single number 5 up that off-width slab at the start of pitch 2 to get yourself ready for that traverse.
The Athenian is a 21. I've eyed it a few times, but never been able to enthuse anyone to climb it with me. (I would've thought the opportunity to laugh when I fall off pulling the arete should've been motivation enough).

Wow, I didn't realise it was possible to get to the top of it without climbing it. It's always a challenge finding people to do The Phoenix (and wasted effort when I get rained out), but this opens up opportunities for roped soloing.
How did you access this dirt road you mentioned?
rodw - Good idea, something to consider for sure. |
