What time of year exactly will you be there Wendy? I'm heading over in a month and will be there til november. Owen's is good. And it's near the Buttermilks/High Sierra/Tuolumne/YNP if the pass is open. Oh and the hotsprings. Don't go to ORG in summer though...
Lover's Leap has some sport routes. Jailhouse is sport but not sure about the grades, I haven't been there. Cave Rock at Tahoe but I think that's closed now.
Vedauwoo is famous for offwidths =) amongst its other cracks
Wild Iris is limestone sport.
City of Rocks is like a smaller version of J Tree
Smith is vertical to overhanging sport and trout creek isn't too far http://www.flickr.com/photos/hanmi/1338672170/
Rifle has some really good rockclimbing but the style polarises people. I haven't done tons there but the good moderate stuff tends to be polished from everyone warming up there everyday. ie Get in car drive 1.4mins. Get out of car warm up. Get in car drive 0.75mins get out of car. Redpoint (dog) for the rest of the day
I've had heaps of fun at Red Rocks but have never been to the sport area, so I can't comment on it. The camping feels a little like guantanamo bay minus the water. It never gets dark there (vegas) and it's desolate and windy with no trees and a super unfriendly camp host who drives 10m from his massive trailer in a golf cart to come and get your fees. There is a gun range within earshot (no pun intended) where you can pay (presumably heaps of money) and go birko with machine guns and some nights it's open til 10. How convenient. Nothing I like more than a late night machine gunning session. Someone told me there is a rotating turret you can shoot the crap out of everything in 360degrees from. How this can be made safe is beyond me so I'm not sure if I believe it. Anyway, it adds to the ambiance.
The east is really good apparently but it's really far from ynp. (Think nati-perth)
There are no sport routes there but you HAVE to go to CA needles.
