My Australian insurance company, through Flightcentre, won't give approval for a helicopter rescue OKd by the expedition leader without consulting the Sydney office. The expedition company won't let me go without the insurance company OKing a helicopter if it is too difficult to reach them by phone.
I'm stuck in the middle. Any ideas?

Do a search on Chockstone for Insurance - this has been done to death. I travelled on travel insurance with the Austrian Alpine Association which covers you for helicopter rescue. Refer to their website.

cool sounds like fun, jagged should be able to point you in the right direction for insurance id suspect.
The policies you buy over the counter at travel agents will exclude mountaineering altogether. If JG cant help theres plenty of other posts on here and other climbing sites about mountaineering friendly underwriters..

do you stok kangri is a trekking peak above 6000 m in ladakh area. i climbed it on my own a few years back...jagged golbe you must be loaded ....
you don't need any helicopter rescue there..just good legs, mental attitude and food.
pay for my airfare to india i.e. 1200AUD and i will take you to the top of stok kangri for free. all camping services , gear provided free from me. and if you want we can cycle all the way from stok village to manali.
i did this route again last year albeit this time on a avanti and not indian rusty hero !!!

Austrian Alpine Club won't cover you above 6000m - or for an expedition longer than 6 weeks (i think).

Unless you agree to wear lederhosen.

I joined up to cover 1 1/2 days following tnd up some Phi Phi classics. Must have come out to $20 per climb. Considering how close I was to sliming off all the time, it was probably worth it.
6 weeks limit is definitely correct.
The Horn @ Buffalo is as high as I've ever been and ever want to go so I didn't pay any attention to whether there is a 6000m limit.
And yes, you do have to wear Lederhosen if du bist ein Herr und eine Dirndl if du bist ein Madchen! Not easy getting a harness on over a Dirndl.
