That lycra flashback was awesome, thanks for sharing Nadia. I love part 2 where Louise completes a climb, Have a good flight?, sits on a small ledge and calls down, "I'm safe!"
Being a sooky la-la, I don't call "I'm safe" until i'm tied into at least 15 different pieces...:)

Yeah, I must admit, we broke a few rules for dramatic effect, e.g. Malcom lying down casually while belaying Louise (he doesn't normally do this guys!)

Who are some of the other characters in this film? The girl with the blond punk cut? The older bearded gentleman with the squeeky voice?

And the sandbag grades are awesome - Scorpion Corner a grade 18?!

I know! I had to laugh too. Louise taught me to lead climb a few years ago, and would have chastised me severely for that!

Andrea Hayes. The rehearsal put into her lead of Scorpion Corner almost matches those of Andy Pollitt on Punks and Eddy Ozols on Procul. Still a great lead on her part.

I love how no matter who / when someone is winging off, she's still at about the same place in the corner. She must have been climbing for hours!
Great video btw, and thanks for sharing it! Does anyone have that early / mid 1980s ABC doco set at Araps? I have an ultra-vague memory of seeing it on TV at the time (more than a decade before I took up climbing) and would love to see it again!

It's Andrea Hayes with the blonde hair, Dennis Kemp (since deceased) is the older guy, Robin Williams from Natimuk is the beginner girl...
Andrea only led the grade 18 section of Scorpion Corner, not the 22 section, hence we called it a "grade 18 corner", we were trying to include every type of climb...it was filmed on 16mm film before the digital age, with radio microphones

I've read a few articles/stories that featured Dennis Kemp and it was really nice putting a face to a name.

Fantastic vid. Love the subtle differences between 80's Australian speech, and today's.

Would that be the "International Climbing Meet" at Araps? the VCC tried to get a copy of that some years back but the ABC marketing department put a rather hefty price tag on it. When it was broadcast there were some technical hitches and unannounced they showed it full again the following night. They also put a big price on other things that they filmed but never showed on TV. Baxter and Dewhurst on Tourist Buttress at Rosea for example. Other things that were broadcast were Ewbank and others on Dogface having hamburgers lowered to them and more besides. The ABC has a decent collection of Australian climbing history locked away in their vaults, all it takes is someone with many dollars to unlock it.

there was an ABC doco of 2 guys doing "A Taste of Honey" in the 1970's too, I think it was Andrew Thomson and Nic Taylor...
