Orpierre was Ok for a the first few days, but I wouldn't recommend staying longer than that. The routes are ridiculously over-bolted in many cases (think 4a's with bolts ever 50cm), and many of the routes are chipped or have holds glued on! If I recall correctly the guide summarised it well (it has a picture of someone bolting on the cover!) inside it says the area is "chipped and bolted to perfection" or something along those lines. It is however an amazingly beautiful area (we spent a few weeks living in a cave up in the hills). Personally I prefered Ceuse (not a soul there october-november). I'd say Gap is your best bet.
