I believe an advantage of the Confluence/thisarvo.com system is that it's wiki based. So after you find someone has been a wrecker you can unwind their changes to get back to where you were. Still a pain but better than losing the data. It's balancing the risk against the advantage of encouraging lots of people to get involved and do good stuff.
