Providing bicycle lanes is not necessarily the answer.
One of our group was wiped out from behind this week whilst in a bike lane.

Another motorist chased down the driver who then said she didn't even know anything happened.
Then she raved on about the sun in her eyes on a road that doesn't even face the sun.

The cyclist is having his leg put back together as I write this.

The real cure is for car drivers to actually have respect for cyclist lives.
This is hard as car drivers live in their cocoon and are impervious to anything but a highway speed accident.

I like to see all drivers have to spend 2 years riding a bike before they are allowed a licence to drive a car.
Let them live the reality of careless drivers, it may make them think a bit more.
