Ignoring the debate about exactly how bad things were, the church was wrong to do those things. Feel free to criticise the church for failing to be sufficiently Christian.

It'd also be a little churlish of you to ignore the fact that some of the voices calling for more tolerance were Christian.

Ironic perhaps, but hardly unexpected. Jesus told his disciples that the world would hate them as it had hated him. The true aberration was the church-as-state period.

I respond from the Simpsons:
Lisa: "Two wrongs don't make a right"
Bart: "Yes they do"
L: No they don't (B: do!)... Dad!
Homer: Two wrongs make a right Lisa.

Playing the righteous revenge card detracts a little from your claim to the moral high ground.

Steady on pal... Argument ad hominem much? Heard of guys like Bonhoeffer, Wilberforce, Martin Luther King Jr? I'd say they're about as far from unthinking herd-followers as you could get.

>and a willingness to lead a life based on the contradictory

Find me an example of a contradiction. Reference each passage please and then we'll talk.

>scribblings of a group of deluded 'scholars".

I don't think anyone's claiming that scholars wrote the books of the Bible. Are you talking about translators?

Well I've heard a lot of mockery and misrepresentation/misunderstanding (cf your wanking kittens post) from you. No questions of substance yet.

If you think you've got a good argument to make, then make it.
