On the long weekend I went to Mt Pilot to have a look around. Actually I went there to climb but *someone* forgot the rope (wasn't me this time!). I don't think I would have done much climbing though, as it is in a terrible mess after the fires there. There is ash ankle-deep in some places, and rocks are blackened, as are all the trees, which made it difficult to find a climb that was described as being near "the black stump"!

Also, I couldn't find any bolts, or any of the rap chains described in the guide. Do these melt or fall out or something after fires? It's a shame, because some of the climbing looked really good. I heard that one of the locals is taking abseil groups there, but without bolts or chains on any of the slabby rock I can't see how one could even set up a toprope there (I may just be really bad at locating climbs).

Has anyone else been there since the fires?
