If the whole point of climbing is the gymnastic moves, then why don't you just top rope?
Don't need any metal then and you can concentrate on your moves to your hearts content.

Or doesn't that fit your particular level of tough guy showoffiness?

Plugging for carrots is nothing to do with appearing tough, but does show respect for other land users, as well as bygone climbers.
Not wanting carrots IS generally simply being irrationally scared of the things.

Outdoor climbing is not a gym, never has been, never should be.
It is the total experience, and if you want to switch off to the extent that all you have to think about is the moves, then you're gonna get hurt.
