(c) Semi-incompetent scardy cats that get spooked and fumble clips.

You can bring out as many excuses that you want to, that's the real reason.

Hangers were fixed in the past because the clip was a little desperate, the rest were just bolts.
Now it seems that every clip is deemed to be desperate and in need of 'modernization', read, made easier so that it is more accessible to more climbers.
More new climbers that don't take the time to develop their total climbing skills to include a good lead head.
More beginner climbers that will never be 'real climbers', as in keep doing it for the rest of their lives, but have a go for a couple of years and move on, leaving the gumbyization and iron mungery legacy behind them.
