Having climbed in Kenya and South Africa I can assure you that the climbing grades there are often a bit softer than ours; maybe up to two grades. However, there was quite a bit of variance from crag to crag, and some modern routes are spot on.
BTW Don't take my comment to mean that SA climbers themselves are, in any way, softer or less-accomplished than the aussie counterparts. I have nothing but the utmost admiration for Andy de Klerk and cohorts; they've produced some incredible and difficult world-class climbing. |
