take the frame out of your pack, use the foamie as the frame
strip your pack down. no hip belt, zips, lids etc, useless stuff for light packs. think cilogear 30L ws light: cilogear.com not traditional Aus/NZ 30L pack light (1-2kg)
ditch the sleeping bag, ditch the rain jacket (go a windshirt)
food, gels, water, chocolate, nuts
keep walking and dont sleep, take a headtorch instead of sleep gear.
or if you like solids, bake your own bread and make it flat and real dense. alot of my stuff for walking is more bulky than heavy so volume counts.
then lighten your gear, go a lighter jacket (Aus is not that cold, take a hat and gloves, neck warmer-you lose a lot of heat thru the head)
check the wx before you go.
most walking done is so easy that you don't need to overnight unless you like sleeping out in uncomfortable places. I subscribe to walking in the dark, finishig in the dark and then get out to a bed. Obviously not always possible.
Walkin in the dark is great, different perspective, esp in snow under full moon, no snakes, people, etc,
