i do think the time you save in simul climbing and leading in blocks is more for people on bigger climbs and simul climbing is a more riskier advanced tatic,
you can save heaps of time just by
- minimising talk at belays
-efficent rope management at the belay
-communication, letting the leader know when they have ten metres of rope left
-always doing something to aid progression, as soon as the leader yells safe, put your shoes on and strip the belay down to one bomber piece so your ready to move straight away,
-belay the second on a tight rope so they can climb feeling safe, second pulls on gear if need be to climb faster
-make sure you eat and drink
-second racks gear on there harness if there leading next pitch, if not rack on a sling so you can hand the whole thing to the leader while second puts them on belay
-leader belays second up with a Reverso in "guide" mode so they can start clipping rack to anchor if there swapping pitches or they can drink, take photos etc
