IMHO, if you want to know well known climbs just google them all and count the number of hits; therefore I say you have to have 'climbed' the route and you get awarded a weighting of votes based on style of ascent:

3 votes - an onsight, implying that the angles involved meant no one could be absolutely 100% certain whether or not you pulled on the draw

2 votes - a top rope ascent, this includes stick clipping, placing gear higher than your shoulders or downclimbing at any stage (unless downclimbing above gear)

1 vote - you walked passed the climb, looked up and reckoned you could probably do it if you lost some weight and trained a bit... after all, you've won the mental battle, actually climbing it would be both futile and waste precious drinking time
