Time on rock my friend...time on rock!

To qualify this a little, think of your climbing in terms of building a pyramid - each layer building on the next. With a wide base of support, (without any gaps), the pyramid can reach significant height. Without solid well constructed layers the whole thing looks a bit shakey! - perhaps your climbing performance?
Now substitute each layer with a climbing grade. In order to push through to higher levels each layer, (grade), needs to be widely establised and solid. So if your current upper limits are 20/21 take a step back and ensure that each of the lower grades are solid ie: do heaps of climbing and consolidate 17, 18, and 19. This will ensure that your upper end climbing level or pushing into the next grade will be less variable and achieved more rapidly. As you push to higher levels continually evaluate to ensure that the lower levels are solid at each step of the way... rather than building a pyramid with holes all through it.
