Max,

Beavis is more a slab technique climb, not much strength required after the first few moves, just trust in your footwork and good balance. (Sitting on the tree branch half way up is considered bad form).

Time on Rock or in the Gym is the key during your first couple of years climbing.
The more you start tuning you motor-neuron system to the requirements of climbing the less energy you require to hang on.
The time spent lifting weights is probably better spent, doing climbing specific training.
Lift weights -> you get good at lifting weights.
Weights and any other activity are all good supplements to you primary climbing training.

Like any sport, 1000's of hours of practice are required, in general you won't find some new 'wunderkid' coming out of nowhere and toping the climbing scene.
For example. Chris Webb from Canberra has over the last few months sent around ten 32's mostly in 3 or 4 shots. Flashed and onsighted a couple of 31's. Never heard of him, well he has been training hard in the gym, mostly bouldering for the last three years.

I have been climbing for about 13 years, my training is very sporadic, not focused has no plan. On the other hand Chris's training is consistant, focused on specific goals and to a plan. My estimate from talking with Chris is that he would have more than 3 times the amount of training in his 3 years than my 13.
Chris can onsight 30+, I am lucky on a good day to onsight a something in the low 20's.

Practice makes perfect.
