Mighty Mouse asked Why not tie another overhand knot in the tails (of an overhand knot) to stop slippage? Some people do this. The major drawback is it creates a 'noose' that can get caught on branches etc when you pull the ropes down. This sort of defeats one of the purposes of using an overhand knot in the first place ... ie an overhand knot is less likely to get stuck when retrieving the rope.
