Try the VCC website - http://vicclimb.org.au/ - these guys do lots of trips to Arapiles and Grampians and are a pretty good place to meet climbers who are also looking for climbing buddies or groups who are more than happy to induct another person. Just make sure you're honest about your experience and capabilities and they'll look after you.

Also, isn't Bendigo where one of the most AWESOMEST ROCKCLIMBING SHOPS IN AUSTRALIA is located?? try visiting http://www.rockhardware.com.au/ and get in touch with the owner, Steve. I can't say i know him personally but i gather he's very involved in the local climbign community, he may know a few people are are either looking for partners or groups who are happy to teach. Without sounding like an advertisement, he's also got an extensive range of equipment at very good prices, he'll be able to fit you out with whatever you need.
