Dr Karl ran an informal study on belly button lint when he had a regular spot on JJJ about 10 years ago. He asked listeners to collect their belly button lint for a month (or maybe three months) and to determine what colour the collected fluff was at the end. The answer was overwhelmingly blue/ grey and the reason is because that is the "average" colour of the clothes people wear.

I think he has a PhD in nuclear physics, which he dumped to study medicine, before deciding stardom beckoned as a media science nerd.
