Here's a wee summary of the very secular breakfast with the Dalai Lama thisa morning that was hosted by Amnesty International and the Australia Tibet Council:

Larissa Berendt spoke about the failures of the Northern Territory "intervention".

The Dalai Lama spoke about the tendency of oppressed peoples to internalize their oppressors' view that they are inferior and their culture is too. He said the most important thing oppressed peoples can do to resist that is to get the best education they possibly can. He spoke about the importance of Aboriginal people preserving their traditions, especially their languages and the importance of the rest of us supporting them in that task. He then went on to talk about Tibetan people experiencing much the same problems as aboriginal people in Australia and the need to find a solution to the Tibetan issue that allows Tibetan people to practice their own culture freely.
