To me it looks like commercial TV stations refusing to innovate or change their business models, and instead lobby government for favourable policies which continue to support their long held monopoly and give them an advantage over their competition. There are some rather influential (read: rich) characters involved...

In comparison to the ABC network (granted it is gov funded), all the other stations have failed to evolve or grasp the potential of this new media landscape we now have. Many are only now starting to put their shows online, but only provide inferiour, low quality video which is broken up over several "parts" and used to force even more advertising material down our throats.

If the government cares so much about these national sporting events, why doesn't it hand them all over to the ABC and pay for an extra digital channel for it all to be streamed live and unbroken? My personal preference would be for the gov to just put it out there on an open playing field for all the networks to tender for. Competition breeds innovation and i watch most of my sport at the pub anyway.

Digital is the future... Uses less space/power, has higher quality sound/picture and converting media from one format to another is easy.

You could climb in your hobnail boots, with a hemp rope and carry stones around to use as chocks, or you could embrace the modern technology and use it to your own creative advantage.
