Hi all,

I climb - I blog... and am new to Chockstone. I'm looking for a climbing gym partner in Vic. I like to go to Cliffhanger. I'm an alpine guy and am really not that hot a rock climber. Beginner partners all good with me.

But that's not really an exciting topic so instead let's talk about Andrew Lock. Right at this moment he should be either pushing for the summit of Tibet’s Shishapangma or, perhaps, he's already there.

This would make him Oz's top climber and the only fella from down under to climb every 8000er. I'm following his progress on my brand new blog: http://www.remoteadventurer.com/index.php?option=com_wordpress&p=129&Itemid=102#more-129

I'll post updates the minute I have news of his success (or failure)..

"Climb when ready!"

Hi Ben, you said on your blog

"Andrew’s previous attempts at the summit of Shishapangma have been thwarted by a long and technical summit ridge which climbers must traverse between camp 3 (the highest camp) and the true summit. Late last week a team of international climbers were turned back by this very obstacle which Andrew is confident he can negotiate on his next push."

Almost correct... he is actually taking a different route this time that goes directly to the main summit. However, the route he's chosen this time requires a long technical traverse across a steep face. He's obviously a strong climber so hopefully this will not cause any problems and he'll be able to get to the true summit with no problems. From what I've read, it seems there has been a bit too much snow this season which has caused a lot of problems for people like Ueli Steck. I'm guessing it is making that traverse between the two summits a bit too difficult.
