I think that that the TZ7 with the 24mm lens is what you want and they have come down in price lots:

I dont think that the FT1 waterproff and shockproof Panasonic will be as good in terms of picture quality - just google for the test results.

Back on topic - intersting thread - totally agree, simply darkroom manipulation adjstments in Photoshop are totally acceptable in the media - cropping and changing backgrounds however would be classed as art or another type of artistic photography
