This is not chopping related but it does have to do with augmentations in the rock. While back while chatting with a Spanish climber by the camp fire. I was told of Climber (in Spain, 1st secenssionist) who decided to cover up a hold! His reasoning was that those who repeated the climb, where claiming it to be of a lower grade than he original deemed it to be. As they used the offending hold which he did not use while working the project and in the first accent!

Makes you think about all the deference paid to the first acenssionist as to what development needs to happen on a route. Especially when most of them will be dead in 20-40 years. Come to think of it so could I :( .

Personally I think the community's (people who use/maintain the crag/cliff/mountain) ethics as a whole is a better measure as to what development should take place. As opposed to a few individuals taking to the cliff in anger with a crowbar, drill or what ever.
