Not into team sports, but I hit the weights gym two or three times a week, cut laps at the pool (gotta keep up with Dad who does 3km a week at age 73), mountain bike the forest tracks on the hills behind our house, and of course indoor & outdoor climb as often as possible. I used to be big into hiking, still am, but don't seem to do as many these days. In terms of a benefit from cross training - well the swimming and mountain biking is my cardio, which I need, now that I'm in the good paddock so to speak. :-), and comes in handy when trying to keep up with the overly enthusiastic during mad dash approaches. Not sure the weights actually help climbing, but after 15 years I'm too addicted to quit - something to do with being stuck in front of this computer all day long.
And A5, I know what you mean about the gardening. I get a serious workout with a crowbar, shovel and handsaw in the wild jungle of less than healthy plants we laughingly call our garden. Not sure how it would translate onto the rock though. Maybe for those vegetated crack routes. ;-) |
