I know of several cases where gri gris have failed. I saw Mikl dropped 10m at the sea cliffs last year with a very reliable belayer. A gri gri only requires very slight pressure on the lock mechanism to stop it locking up - this can be a stomach, jumper ( in this case) or anything like that. Additionally, in cases where the belayer has the biner with the gri gri through the harness as you woukld to tie in, rather than through the belay loop, can be very, very bad. This puts the gri gri into a strange configuration its not meant to be in. As an afterthought, it also only takes 1 small pebble or rock grain to fall into the device to stop it locking up. Ness
