thats right peter garret's solar rebate expires on 30/6/09. there are a couple of catches
1 -you have to own your home
2 - your taxable (combined if a couple ) be less than $100000 p.a
3 -have a suitable north facing unshaded roof to mount it on .
4 it will cost you some money but varies greatly Origin Energy will do it all for $3950 but I have found a company that won't charge you at all (sort of ) but you have to pay the $480 odd to inspect and change over your meter .

Benefits to you a 1 kw system melbourne 1400 kwh per year wimmera and northern country 1600+ kwh pa . At 17 cents a kwh at least $240 savings per year . But like the TV offers wait there is more 17 cent is the figure is a minimum , at present Origin will pay you 23.5 cent for every kwh you put back in . as of next year this is mandated by the government to be 60 cents a kwh . Most of your daily power is produced between 10 a.m and 3 pm so if little power is used during this time the savings are significant .

The solar industry is screaming about the fact that the $8000 rebate is going but the 60 cent rebate if you limit your power consumption to the non peak generating time I believe will be a real boon. A 2 to 3 kw system would basically mean you won't have any consumptive power bill. So if you are quick you can get the metering and wiring done for nix for the 1st kw then probably an extra 5 to 6 thousand for each extra kw .

for example a 3 kw system will produce say 4500 + kwh and if by properly limiting consumption (ie your at work during the day ) probably 2000 kwh will be fed back into the grid this will be worth $1200 so if your yearly power bill was 1400 you'd only pay 200 a saving of $1200 for a outlay of $12000 which is a pretty good return . The only catch is they wont pay you any money only credit which must be spent within a 12 month period.

Say with a 1 kw system you put 800 kwh back into the grid that would pay in one year for the meter change

People can argue whether pv panels are really green or not but pure economics to me mean if you qualify you'd have to be crazy not to get in quickly to get your money

THE SPAM PART : I found a company in melbourne from the web that will install 1kw fo free if you qualify for the grant , pay a 2500 credit card deposit until grant comes back to them , (dont know where you sign it and they don't claim it unless needed or if they actually collect it but the credit card company will refund you if they go broke so no risk really ) they also have a charge for extra distance from melbourne but can be share if multiple systems installed . company called nuenergy in carrum downs they have a 1300 number . We will be using them to put a system on mother-in laws place
